ZEN - Fusion Frame Sculpture

Repurposed Antique Frame (gilded wood & paper mâché) unified with Pine Tree Branch reclaimed from the Jefferson Wilderness of Oregon.

I noticed this vast frame in a Central Oregon antique store and was impressed with its classical ornaments, simplicity and charisma. Stored away, it took years before I unearthed a branch that could balance such a frame. It was in the Jefferson wilderness that I came upon a massive downed pine tree, resting there, tranquil-like, affording me the opportunity to realize the apt counterpart.

The frame was originally gold and the branch was weathered-grey. Intuition guided the melding of their separate features and their transition to a warm, earthy-white. Frame and branch were each noteworthy in their own right, yet unified as one, even more striking, for me. When I contemplate this work, I am reminded of a depth of life achieved only by means of harmony.

Please, meet Zen.
