DAWN - Fusion Frame Sculpture
Repurposed Antique Frame (circa 1850 - 1899) unified with Pine Tree Branch reclaimed from the Jefferson Wilderness Area of Oregon.
Hidden away in an attic for many, many years, this majestic frame was a wonderful reveal. Its high relief and carefully crafted running patterns and corner ornaments, scars as well, caught my eye. As did its glimmering gild undaunted by time. Once secured, I set out to find an equally impressive branch, pine, to agree with the frame’s molding. It required a few outings, but at last, thanks to a massive felled pine tree, I discovered its companion.
Frame and branch now share running patterns and corner ornamentation. And, the original appearances transformed with dark hues to sieve the vivid and gild, providing but a faint glimmer of its core.
As I shaped this piece I found myself contemplating its spry limbs and warm, radiant surround — almost as to proclaim a new beginning, an anticipated epoch. Hence, aptly named, Dawn
